South Korea will hold Hangeul Week from October 6 to 17, with events marking the 100th anniversary of Hangeul Day and the 580th anniversary of Hunminjeongeum, the text associated with the creation of the Korean alphabet. The main festival, Hangeul Hanmadang, runs October 6–8 at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul.

Its program includes musicals, poetry, music, storytelling and hands-on activities for children and visitors. A video projection titled “Twenty-Four, the Universe” will be shown on the square’s exterior wall from October 8–11, visualizing Hangeul’s 24 basic consonants and vowels.
Events are also planned in Sejong, Incheon and 22 Korean-language and culture centers nationwide.
